For over thirty years Robert C. McHugh has practiced Architecture in  Western Colorado and maintains a firm of well trained professionals. Our group works as a team and offers the wisdom and experience gained over those years. We particularly enjoy lending our special attention to detail and quality.  Past projects include fine homes, banks, retail stores, restaurants, guest ranches, barns, libraries and schools. We also do bridges.

Our services begin with a "schematic design phase" during which we work closely with owners to understand issues and develop pictures which help visualize ways to address the needs.

Once we all arrive at a consensus we enter the "design development phase".  Here the architects collaborate with structural, mechanical and electrical engineers, as well as construction people, to determine the most effective way to build the project.

After a complete review and approval by the owners the "working drawings phase" begins.  The concept is then transformed into a detailed set of documents that describe how to build the project.  Estimators utilize these plans and specifications to develop an estimate of construction costs. 

The "bidding and negotiating" phase comes next, during which the project can be bid out to General Contractors or assigned to a Construction Management organization.  A budget is set for the work, which becomes a component of the "contract for construction".

During construction our design team visits the site weekly to observe the work and to monitor progress.  A report with photographs is transmitted to the owners after each visit.  We also process and approve pay requests and change orders.  When the project is close to completion a "walk through" is conducted with owner and contractor to develop a "punch list" of items to complete before the project is signed off.
